Two teams from Leeds Trinity University have been recognised for the advice and support they provide to students at a national award ceremony.

Award trophies.

The University’s Money Advice service and Student Communications teams were highly commended at the 2022 National Association for Student Money Advisers (NASMA) Student Money Advice Awards.   This is in recognition of their excellent joint work and “for going over and above the call of duty” in providing a service to their students.

Leeds Trinity’s Money Advice service provides problem-solving support to students with their finances, bursaries and hardship funds as well as guidance for graduates on paying tax, claiming benefits and accessing funding for further study. The Student Communications team provides targeted and engaging communications to ensure students receive the right information at the right time across a variety of channels.

There was also success at a regional level as the North-East and Yorkshire region was recognised again as ‘Region of the Year’ for the strong network and best practice developed across institutions – the first time any region has won this much-coveted award twice.

Emma Quirke, Money Advice Manager at Leeds Trinity University, who also chairs the NASMA North-East and Yorkshire Region said: “I am so happy that the North-East and Yorkshire won ‘Region of the Year’ as it reflects the amazing network we have created and how well we share good practice across our institutions.

“I am also thrilled that our teams at Leeds Trinity were commended for the work they do to provide and communicate useful, engaging and timely information to our students. The two teams work extremely well together and this is well-deserved recognition for their efforts.”

Dr Ruth Wilson, Director of Student Support and Engagement at Leeds Trinity University said: “In order to deliver on our University’s ‘name, not a number’ ethos, we have invested in our student support services and grown our teams in tandem to provide excellent care and clear messaging to our learners.  We know that being a student has its challenges, now more than ever, so knowing who to talk to and that help is on offer can change the story for those who use our service.”

After a pandemic-related hiatus, the NASMA Student Money Advice Awards returned to celebrate the work of the association’s members during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
