The 21-year-old confirmed Leeds Trinity as her first choice after visiting the campus for a Primary Education open day and feeling ‘at home’. She was drawn to the University not only for the course but the extra-curricular and professional placement opportunities it offered.

Making the most of her time at Leeds Trinity, Evie became a student ambassador, course representative, Vice President of the University’s cheerleading team and worked in the Students’ Union bar. A highlight of Evie’s University journey was designing the first gender-inclusive cheerleading kit for her team.

During her course, Evie completed placements in a number of schools in the region, developing key skills and techniques to equip her for the future.

After graduation, Evie plans to go into supply teaching to gain wider experience in various schools and prepare her further for her own primary class. She has also extended her contract as an ambassador at Leeds Trinity to continue to support Open Days and University events, inspiring other young people to continue their education in a supportive environment.

Reflecting on her time at Leeds Trinity University, Evie said: “Leeds Trinity has shaped me as a person. When I think back to who I was at 18 when I first joined, I am a more refined, confident, passionate and understanding individual than I was back then.

“I have been given some amazing opportunities through the University, including my role of being the student representative for the Primary Education courses. This has led me to work closely with lecturers and other University staff and has inspired me to become a lecturer or work within a university one day to inspire the next generation of teachers.”

Vanessa Sawyer, Deputy Head of School in the Institute for Childhood and Education at Leeds Trinity University, said: “Evie is the first in her family to attend university and has shown such strength, resilience and determination in all areas of her development.

“She has dedicated her time in being a student representative and ambassador and getting involved in staff-student collaboration projects. She is a credit to Leeds Trinity, and I wish her the best of luck going forward.”

Leeds Trinity University recently achieved an overall student satisfaction score of 80% in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2022 results, making it joint top in Yorkshire and the Humber and joint 25th in the UK for this measure.

The NSS 2022 results follow the recent publication of the Higher Education Statistics Agency’s Graduate Outcomes survey. This places Leeds Trinity University top in Yorkshire for employability, and 15th in the UK, with 97% of its graduates in employment or further study within 15 months of finishing their studies.
