Leeds Trinity appoints Director of the Office for Institutional Equity

Dr Tamsin Bowers-Brown has been appointed as the Director of the Office for Institutional Equity at Leeds Trinity University.

Dr Bowers-Brown will join the University in January 2022 and lead a programme of training, engagement, accreditation, monitoring and integrated practice improvement to support students, staff and the Leeds Trinity community.  

Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the newly created Office for Institutional Equity will examine all policies and practices through the lens of equality, diversity and inclusion, support staff and students in these matters, and develop appropriate training.

Dr Bowers-Brown has worked in higher education for 18 years, in both academic and professional service roles. Over the past four years, she has led significant institutional change in her role as Head of Social Justice and Pedagogic Practice at the University of Derby to promote equity and to embed a social justice approach to eliminating the awarding gaps.

She began her career at Sheffield Hallam University working in numerous roles from educational researcher, lecturer and programme leader, through to principal lecturer in education and head of postgraduate taught courses. Dr Bowers-Brown is a Visiting Professor at London Metropolitan University in the Centre for Equity and Inclusion and co-convenor of the British Sociological Association’s Education Study Group. Her research focuses on inequalities in education.
