Starting on Tuesday 10 November 2020, the free course is made up of online lessons and workshops introducing web development and its basic components. Each workshop is two hours in length and covers various components including: HTML and CSS, Programming with JavaScript, Source Control and Development.

Leeds Trinity lecturers and industry experts in coding will deliver the workshops through online teaching and practical exercises and will be able to support individuals applying for web development and coding job applications and interviews.

It is being delivered in partnership with [re]boot; a £3 million project which offers free courses for individuals who want to upskill, gain new skills and qualifications, and enter employment in the Leeds city region. It is funded by the European Social Fund and managed by West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership.

Professor Malcolm Todd, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Trinity University, said: “We are delighted to be supporting individuals with free training opportunities during this uncertain time. Our digital coding course has been developed in partnership with industry professionals to address the digital skills gap in Leeds, support the needs of local employers, and ensure that individuals gain industry-relevant skills and confidence.”

Nav Chohan, Chair of the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges (WYCC) and Shipley College Principal, said: “[re]boot provides a unique, fully-funded opportunity to inspire, retrain and upskill individuals and those furloughed with sector specific skills that will improve their future career options. During this period of uncertainty, WYCC are committed to putting measures in place to ensure that we continue to provide training at a time when flexibility and access are key.”

The course aims to support individuals wanting to change career or upskill and progress in their current role by teaching them the basics of web coding and highlighting the career opportunities in web coding and the digital industry. Further courses will be released in January 2021.

Leeds Trinity University is a delivery partner in the [re]boot project, hosted by West Yorkshire Combine Authority. [re]boot offers a range of short courses in various sectors including digital and creative. Participants should be 18 years old or above and eligible to work in the UK with a desire to change career or upskill in their current role.
