Night Vision in Partnership with Leeds Trinity University: Celebrating International Women’s Day 2024

.

What's happening?

The evening will feature readings from Clare Wigzell (a poet who writes poetry in response to place, nature, and art) and a book discussion on Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo, with Amina Alyal (Senior Lecturer in English Literature at Leeds Trinity University). This event is free to attend and there will be light refreshments provided.

Our key speaker, poet Clare Wigzell, is a feminist Leeds poet who writes from her kinaesthetic experiences of life. As a Quaker, she is interested in silence and inner meaning. She writes in response to artists such as Hepworth and JMW Turner. She has an MA from Leeds Trinity University in Creative Writing and is published in numerous anthologies, and has chapbooks published with Leeds Trinity WordSpace and Leeds City Council. Claire will be reading her work and also discussing inspiration and the first steps into writing.

Amina Alyal has published two collections, The Ordinariness of Parrots (Stairwell Books 2015) and Season of Myths (Wordspace at Indigo Dreams 2016). She teaches creative writing and English literature at Leeds Trinity University, and is keen on developing students’ performance of their own work, with published research on this topic. She is a founding member of Wordspace Leeds open mic. Amina will be reading her work but also hosting a discussion on the book Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo.
