The Student Contract

About this course

This course is aimed at apprentices who wish to obtain an undergraduate degree that offers higher leadership skills in managing construction and commercial projects.

This apprenticeship is designed to give apprentices the core skills of understanding the causes of construction delays, what tools are necessary to resolve contemporary issues in contract management and to ensure projects are delivered on time, to the specified scope, with fewer legal disputes, and above all within the original budget.

These core skills include:

  • Understanding the influence of cost management on the procurement process
  • Efficient management of construction contracts
  • Managing the expectations and commercial interests of clients
  • Administering advice on procurement routes and tender processes
  • Analysing data relating to land, buildings or construction
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, to the correct specification and quality
  • Working as a part of a team to ensure projects are completed within the scheduled time

Apprentices will gain expertise in cost management, procurement and quantification methods using industry software by working collaboratively with very experienced teaching staff and visiting industry practitioners.

The programme aims to equip apprentices with knowledge of construction technologies, digital applications and BIM (Building Information Modelling), including sustainability, while also offering the fundamental skills and knowledge required in modern construction pathways for tendering and estimation.

Our apprentices will gain expertise in cost engineering management using Construction IT software, used frequently within the construction management industry.

Alongside the degree, apprentices will be supervised in completing their learning portfolio leading to Gateway and the Quantity Surveyor Chartered Status Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) examination.

Graduates will also gain recognition and accreditation by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Programme duration and delivery

It will typically take five (5) years to complete this apprenticeship.  This comprises 4 years of degree apprenticeship study plus 8 - 12 months for Gateway and End Point Assessment.

Apprentices will receive all the benefits of being a student at Leeds Trinity University, while also earning a full-time salary from their employer.

This apprenticeship is delivered through block delivery via a blended learning approach. Apprentices benefit from face-to-face and online lectures and seminars, delivered by Leeds Trinity University. In addition to this, apprentices will also complete independent research activities which can be undertaken in the workplace.

Fees and finance

Costs of programme

The cost of the full degree apprenticeship programme is £27,000.

Funding

Degree Apprenticeships are fully funded by your employer if their wage bill is over £3 million each year.

The government will fund up to 95% of the apprenticeship’s course fees, up to the relevant funding band, if the organisation has spent all its levy or has an annual wage bill below £3 million each year. Employers who do not pay the apprenticeship levy contribute 5% towards the total cost of the apprenticeship, the ESFA will contribute the other 95% directly to the University. Employers must have an account with the Apprenticeship Service Account to be able to reserve Government funding for an apprenticeship. This reservation ensures that funds will be available to pay for the training from the point the apprenticeship starts.

Read more about how levy payments work from the UK Government website.
