Placements and projects

Professional work placements and projects are built into all our traditional undergraduate degrees.

Professional Placements

As part of the professional aspect of our standard undergraduate degree programmes, many our second-year students have an opportunity to undertake a Professional Placement within a relevant environment or role.  This enables them to develop their skills, demonstrate their attributes, and gain insight into sectors and roles where they may wish to pursue a career.

Students can carry out their placements during the Block Placement Dates in April for five to six weeks or flexibly on a part-time basis alongside their studies. These flexible placements take place in November, January and February.

Projects

All final-year students at Leeds Trinity University are required to take part in a collaborative project with an organisation during their studies. The Professional Learning Through Work (PLTW) module takes place between November and March.

Projects are generally negotiated between the student and the host and will result in agreed outcomes that benefit the host, while also meeting the required learning outcomes for the student. This can be completed entirely on-site with the host, remotely or a combination of both. 

The project host will provide feedback on the student’s performance and achievements at two or three key points during the project.

Part-time work

Undertaking part-time work while studying can have many benefits for our students. In addition to giving them the opportunity to earn extra money to help support them during their studies, it can be an excellent way for them to enhance their CV and improve their employability skills and prospects.

Experience from the ‘real world' is invaluable to our students. We are keen to expose them to the wide range of exciting careers and opportunities available to them. 

There are lots of ways to get involved including recording short videos, talking to students during lectures and attending sector-specific events.

Insight Days and visits

'Real world' experience is invaluable to our students. We are keen to expose them to the wide range of exciting careers and opportunities available to them. There are lots of ways to get involved including recording short day-in-the-life videos, arranging site visits to businesses as well as running more specific insight sessions either at Leeds Trinity or on-site at your business.

Careers Fair

We invite employers from across a range of industries to share more about what they do and what opportunities they have available at our annual careers fair. This usually takes place in the Autumn.

The event gives employers the chance to meet with our students and graduates and to promote opportunities that include:

Mentoring

We offer all our students the opportunity to work with an industry mentor. Mentoring helps build employability skills and confidence and introduces them to opportunities that they might otherwise not be exposed to.

Being a mentor can build leadership and management skills and expand a mentor’s professional network.
