Primary School Teacher

The placements were so valuable and gave me an insight into the life of a teacher.

Why I chose to study at Leeds Trinity

I chose to attend Leeds Trinity after coming to an Open Day and feeling completely at home. The staff and students were so friendly and I liked the fact it was a campus university.

My best memories

My best memories from University involve being a part of the Titans Cheerleading Team. I was lucky enough to be the Vice President and President of the team over the four years and it was so much fun! This was a great way to make friends and I loved the social side of the club too. In 2023 I organised a fundraising event for the Titans where we welcomed back alumni, including those who formed the club.

Valuable placements

The placements were so valuable and gave me an insight into the life of a teacher. I was able to build my teaching confidence and rapport with children. My placement schools were fantastic and I can’t thank them enough! I taught in KS1 and KS2 which has been really beneficial to my current job.

Further study

After completing my undergraduate degree in Primary Education in 2022 I embarked on an MA in Childhood and Education to continue my learning. I was very proud to be featured in the Yorkshire Evening Post in recognition of what I’d achieved for my undergraduate degree.

The Lecturers on my Masters degree were all so knowledgeable and I have learned so much from them. Nothing was too much trouble and they helped me to achieve more than I could have ever imagined.

Leaving University with a strong skill set

I left Leeds Trinity with skills like resilience, good time management, and a love for my own learning. As much as I learn things specifically for school now I still enjoy reading for my own pedagogy and enjoyment - especially within my research project of children’s spirituality.

Throughout my time at Leeds Trinity, I worked as a Student Ambassador. This involved working on Open Days, at events and giving guided tours to prospective students. I also worked at several events for the Alumni Office where I was entrusted as the front-of-house member of staff to welcome VIP guests back to the University and also show them around.

Having my own class

I started in September 2022 as a Supply Teacher as well as studying for my Masters degree. Then by fluke, I ended up at the primary school where I work full-time now. I worked there in 2022 doing Planning, preparation and assessment cover across a range of year groups. Fast forward to September 2023 where I had my own year 4 class and a permanent position.

My advice to other students

Both of my courses at Leeds Trinity have been great and I would highly recommend embarking on a Masters degree as it will change your life.
